First seen in the late 1800’s, the squash blossom necklace was originally made in Native American cultures that had adopted the metalsmithing techniques brought over by the Spanish. The necklace parts are symbols of fertility, abundance and protection. The center pendant, a cross-cultural symbol called a Naja, provides protection to the wearer and wards off evil spirits. In the cultures that created the squash blossom these necklaces were worn with pride and as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Each necklace is a unique piece of handmade art.
